Oklahoma Lions Eye Bank, OKC
The mission of the Oklahoma Lions Eye Bank is to recover and provide corneas for cornea transplants for Oklahomans on the cornea surgery waiting lists. The Eye Bank provides corneas not suitable for transplant for cornea rim research at the Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. The Lions Eye Bank is the only Eye Bank in Oklahoma working to provide corneas to Cornea Surgeons across our state.
Staffed with local Lions Club members, it offers free screening for visual acuity, glaucoma, blood pressure, bone density, body mass index, lung function, cholesterol, and blood sugar.
All screenings are free to the public and no one is turned down. The visit of the MHSU is a function of the humanitarian services that are provided by the Lions Clubs of Oklahoma and Integris Health.
Lions Boys Ranch, Perkins, OK
Provide a family environment with meaningful life experiences for the youth whose care has been entrusted to the Oklahoma Lions.
Clearly there is a need for the kind of nurturing, supportive care an abuse or neglect victim can receive in a loving home environment. By adhering to the basic philosophy that all people have value and can change their lives by building on their positive attributes and addressing their negative behavior, the Oklahoma Lions Boys Ranch makes a difference.
How the Eyeglass Recycling Process Works
Lions collect used eyeglasses all over their community, and then ship them to a Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center, where trained volunteers sort the glasses, clean them and determine the eyeglasses’ prescription strengths. These glasses are given to those in need at eyeglass-dispensing missions in developing nations, where Lions and eye care professionals perform vision screenings and provide eyeglasses free of charge
